Founding members of Kathwood made the decision to organize a new church to break out of the mold and practice of most Baptist churches of yesteryear. The purpose of our group was to be more open, progressive, and receptive to change, to be more innovative, and to be different – to make a difference.
We invite and affirm all people - regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, differing abilities, situation, or station in life - to join us on the journey of faith exploring what it means to follow Christ together.

Every effort will be made to worship God Almighty with our bodies, minds, and spirits—as we always strive to do. Finally, you will find that you are prepared for and valued as Kathwood Family.

Tear Down the Walls
For Kathwood’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, October 2014, long-time member R. D. Roberts penned a text to be used for a commissioned work by Larry Schultz.
R. D. was inspired to capture the essence of the hopes and dreams and goals of the Kathwood family. This text was timely in 2014 and is even more so today. ~ Rev. Burt Pardue, Minister of Music

While reaching out in loving care and with our justice-song, we’ll bring them all into this house – a place where all belong! Tear down the walls of hatred, pride and race! Rebuild the walls that shelter love, acceptance, truth and grace. Tear down the walls that separate us Lord, and make us one – your holy name adored. In Christ distinctions are undone: in Christ, no rich or poor, no male or female all are one and welcomed through our door! Within these walls of love and grace we fashion for today an open and embracing space, where all may sing and pray: “O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, […]

Welcome to Worship!
As an integral part of God’s Creation, know that you are also a valued part of our worship today. As we gather both in person and virtually, God embraces each of us. May you recognize God’s embrace as you worship, and also as you experience God in Creation this week.
